Professor Simon Bell is Head of the Upper Limb Unit, Orthopaedic Department at Monash Health Moorabbin, and A/Professor in the Department of Surgery, Monash University. He holds a PhD in shoulder surgery, and specialises in shoulder, elbow and sports injuries (Mayo Alumni Association, Schulthess Klinik, Zurich).

Professor Bell is internationally renowned for his clinical research and dedication to excellence in patient outcomes and has published widely in his field. He is also a reviewer for the BJSM, JSES, JBJS (AM) and S&E.

He is a former President of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia (SESA), current President of the Victoria Shoulder and Elbow Society and a corresponding member of the Shoulder & Elbow Societies of Europe and U.S.A. He supervises two AOA accredited Shoulder and Elbow Fellowships for qualified orthopaedic surgeons, and an Upper Limb Research Department with several publications concerning instability in contact athletes.

He is involved in supervising candidates for Master in Surgery and BMedSc., plus registrar training, physiotherapy and undergraduate teaching. He has been the surgeon for Melbourne Storm (Rugby League), The Australian Ballet, The Australian Olympic Swimming team and AFL clubs Richmond, Collingwood and Geelong.
