Dr Jo Stephen is a Research Fellow at Imperial College London in the Biomechanics Research Group, within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She completed her PhD there in 2014 on the subject of the patellofemoral joint. She currently undertakes clinical and laboratory based research into lower limb sports injuries, collaborating with surgeons from The Fortius Clinic, London.
Prior to joining the Biomechanics Group, Dr Stephen worked as a physiotherapist in professional sport before developing a specific interest in lower limb injuries and moving into research. She currently maintains her clinical practice with part time private clinics as a consultant physiotherapist at Physio Remedies. Dr Stephen has a master's degree in Sports Physiotherapy from Cardiff University and undertook her undergraduate physiotherapy degree in Edinburgh.
Recently she attended the International Patellofemoral Study group meeting and has published work on the patellofemoral joint. She is a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Orthopaedic Research and a number of medical engineering journals.
