Dr Christopher Hughes trained in Medicine at University College, London, graduating in 1995. Following completion of GP training, he gained his Master's degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) with Distinction, and completed Specialist training in SEM with the London Deanery in 2010.
He has broad experience in clinical and academic SEM, having worked as an NHS Consultant and as a Team and Event Physician for numerous regional and International teams and events, in different sports and in different Countries.
For the last six years, Dr Hughes' team physician work has been exclusively based in Professional Football, and he has been a Medical Officer for Chelsea FC since 2011 working with all ages groups (U8s to U21s) in the Academy. He has most recently been focusing his duties towards providing training and match-day cover for the First Team squad.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Hughes has an academic interest in Medical Education (especially e-Learning and medical simulation), and previously held the post of Senior Clinical Lecturer and course Lead for the MSc in SEM at Queen Mary University, London. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, having commenced this role in 2011.
